Egypt Achieves Self-Sufficiency in Sugar for the First Time in Years

The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation has announced that Egypt achieved self-sufficiency in sugar production in 2025, with total output exceeding 3 million tons.
This accomplishment was driven by the expansion of cultivated areas of sugarcane and sugar beet, as well as improved purchase prices offered to farmers.

According to official data, 620,000 tons of sugar were produced from sugarcane, while 2.5 million tons came from sugar beet—effectively meeting the country's local demand.

This milestone marks a significant step toward enhancing food security and reducing reliance on imports, especially in light of global economic challenges and supply chain disruptions
