Expansion of Strategic Crop Cultivation to Support Food Security

The Ministry of Agriculture has announced the expansion of newly cultivated areas for strategic crops during the current agricultural season, as part of the state’s plan to support food security and increase local production.

According to official sources, the expansion includes key crops such as wheat, sugar beet, and maize, particularly in newly reclaimed agricultural areas including Nubaria, East Oweinat, and Toshka, with certified seeds and technical guidance provided to farmers.

Technical Support and Improved Productivity

Officials stated that the Ministry is working to:

  • Provide modern agricultural extension programs

  • Encourage balanced fertilization practices

  • Promote the use of modern irrigation systems to rationalize water consumption

  • Conduct continuous field monitoring to reduce plant diseases

These measures aim to increase average yield per feddan and improve crop quality, positively impacting farmers’ income.

Positive Impact on the Market

The increase in cultivated areas is expected to:

  • Reduce reliance on imports

  • Stabilize crop prices in local markets

  • Support agro-industries linked to agricultural production
