"Ministry of Agriculture Promotes Intensive Farming Techniques in Gharbia to Boost Productivity"

Agricultural Seminar in Gharbia Discusses Intercropping Sesame with Cotton and the Importance of Contract Farming
Gharbia, April 2025
The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation organized an agricultural seminar in Gharbia Governorate on intercropping sesame with cotton, in collaboration with the Crop Intensification Department and the Cotton, Fibers, and Oil Crops Council. The event is part of the national campaign to promote crop intercropping.

The seminar addressed the importance of crop intensification as a means to increase yield per unit area, and discussed various types of intercropping and best practices for integrating sesame with cotton, aiming to boost productivity and optimize land use.

Contract farming was also discussed as an effective solution to support small-scale farmers by ensuring a guaranteed market for their crops, contributing to sustainable agricultural development.

The discussions also covered fall armyworm, a dangerous agricultural pest that affects crops like maize, rice, and cotton. If not effectively controlled, it can cause significant yield losses.
